The 2022-23 season’s first Merseyside derby ended in a stalemate, but more accolades continue to pour in for the only Nigerian who featured in the encounter
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has joined several football watchers in applauding Alex Iwobi for his composed and measured display for Everton in their clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
Iwobi was one of the Toffees’ better performers at Goodison Park as Frank Lampard’s men held the Reds to a goalless draw.
Several Everton fans showered praises on the Super Eagles midfielder after the encounter. They are not the only ones impressed by Iwobi’s brilliance, though.
France ’98 World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf has also admitted to admiring the brilliance Iwobi is displaying in his new role as a centre midfielder.
Speaking to ESPN after the match, the Frenchman said: “I have to say I have to give credit to Everton.
“What I saw from Iwobi in the middle of the park was absolutely exceptional. That guy was replaced in another position but he was still outstanding.”
Enjoying a new lease of life under head coach Frank Lampard, Iwobi has appeared in all of Everton’s Premier League matches this season.
The Merseysiders are still without a win in six league games, though, drawing their last four after losing their first two.
