Reports emerged on Monday that Union Berlin’s Nigerian forward is set for a move to the Premier League new boys
With a potential £17.5m move on the cards, Taiwo Awoniyi has been reported to bid his team mates bye as they prepared for their first joint preseason training session on Wednesday.
The player, according to German outlet BZ bid his teammate bye in the dressing room and left the Alte Försterei about 10:05 a.m in the morning.
The Super Eagles forward has had his stock risen in the last two years since he joined Union Berlin on loan. He showed enough in six months to earn a permanent €6.5m and in one season, the Iron Ones’ €20m release clause is believed to have been activated by Premier League new boys, Nottingham Forest. Awoniyi scored 15 goals in 31 games last season.
The Reds’ Greek owner, Evangelis Marinakis is believed to be ready to pump some money into the squad according to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano and has coach Steve Cooper of significant investments.
Awoniyi is considered the first of such investments and is getting the Reds’ fans excited as they return to the Premier League.
