The Nigerian star had his best game in a while, and that has earned him praises from the former Chelsea and Manchester City midfielder
Everton manager Frank Lampard has praised the performance of Alex Iwobi in the Toffees 3-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon.
Although he did not score or provide an assist, Iwobi was one of Everton’s best players on the day. The 25-year-old made a whopping five key passes, won six duels, made three tackles and one interception.
Iwobi has been rightly criticised for his performances for Everton since he joined the club from Arsenal in the summer of 2019.
Before yesterday, Iwobi had not started a league game for Everton since December and did not come on in the 3-1 loss to Newcastle on Tuesday.
However, he played the full 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon, and his performance left a big impression on Lampard, who praised the Nigerian for his fantastic work ethic.
“One of the beauties of coming in like this is it’s a restart for everybody. What Alex has done is trained at a great level,” Lampard said after the game as per Everton FC News.
“He demanded a place in the team with his performance… He had to do a lot of work off the ball & he did everything.”
Iwobi has made 14 league appearances for Everton this season, with one goal and an assist to his name. He will hope to continue in the same vein when Everton travel to the South Coast to take on Southampton next weekend.
