There has not been a shortage of admiring suitors for one of Nigeria’s finest strikers in Europe after a fine debut season in France
2021 La Liga winners Atletico Madrid and Serie A side Atalanta are looking in the direction of Nigerian forward Terem Moffi as a possible attacking reinforcement before the summer transfer window slams shut.
According to FootMercato, both clubs sent representatives to watch the former Kortrijk star in action last weekend as his side took on AS Monaco.
The scouts would have been impressed with the profile of Moffi after the youngster inspired Les Merlus to a surprise 1-0 win over Niko Kovac’s men.
Moffi won the penalty and converted the resulting kick in the 31st minute to score the only goal of the matchday two Ligue 1 clash and earn his side’s first three points of the season.
It’s an excellent way to begin the new campaign for a striker who notched 14 league goals last term to help Lorient avoid relegation troubles.
While some of Europe’s biggest sides are constantly linked with Moffi, it would take something special to tempt him away from Lorient.
The two-cap Super Eagles striker has made it clear he has no intention of leaving the French club, where he has found a home and has a contract until June 2024.
There is also the small matter of making the Nigerian squad to next January’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
Still a Super Eagles fringe player, Moffi will be aware that playing regularly for his club will boost his chances of impressing head coach Gernot Rohr.
However, the youngster has a market value of €10 million, which should be no significant financial burden for the big clubs looking to take him away from France.
He should worth more than the amount.
