Gernot Rohr may be without the services of one of his henchmen later this month as Bordeaux attacker Samuel Kalu picked up an injury in the club’s Ligue 1 clash on Sunday
Samuel Kalu is a massive doubt for Nigeria’s 2022 Afcon qualifying matches later this month after the Girondins Bordeaux ace limped off his side’s 3-1 triumph at Dijon.
Kalu has been one of Bordeaux’s key men in recent times, but he only lasted 16 minutes at the Municipal Gaston Gerard on Sunday before limping off and was replaced by Nicolas de Preville.
It is not clear yet if the 23-year-old winger will recover in time for the Super Eagles matches against the Benin Republic and Lesotho on March 27th and 30th.
Gernot Rohr named Kalu among his forward players in the 24-man list released a few days ago.
A goalscoring midfielder, Kalu scored Nigeria’s winning goal in the 2-1 defeat of the Squirrels of Benin in November 2019 and is considered a key member of Rohr’s starting eleven when fit.
Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru and Lorient’s Terem Moffi are available standby options for the Super Eagles head coach should Kalu fail to recover in time.
The three-time African champions need a point from their remaining two group games to qualify for Cameroon 2022.
