Ahead of the crucial 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone, the head coach of the national football team, Gernot Rohr, is still in the process of putting together the names of players to be invited.
Super Eagles’ German tactician, Rohr, has confessed that injuries to key players may force him to invite new players ahead of the Game Week 3 tie against the Leone Stars.
Nigeria is set to play their West African neighbours in a back-to-back double-header with the first leg billed for the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on the 27th of March with the return fixture slated for the 31st of next month also.
The Super Eagles sit atop of the group with six points out of a possible six, having claimed comfortable victories over the Benin Republic and Lesotho.
Coach Sellas Tetteh-led side boasts just the solitary point earned in a 1-1 draw with Lesotho, having fallen to a narrow 1-0 defeat in Benin.
Rohr will look to guide his men to another easy win against a side that has only been to two AFCON tournaments. The former Bordeaux manager, though, admits that injuries to key stars may force a change of personnel.
“I will make my list public in the first week of March, about three weeks’ notice to the clubs, so I am still observing the players and monitoring them,” Rohr told aoifootball.
“I’m still considering new names because of the recent injuries though most of the players are back on their feet, we will see as time progresses,” he concluded.
Heracles striker and the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer, Cyriel Dessers, is one of the players looking to earn a first-time call-up to the Super Eagles.
