It took the introduction of the Super Eagles star before Lille could secure the win over Gonfreville in the Coupe de France on Saturday night.
Following a goalless first-half, Osimhen was introduced in the 61st minute, and his impact was felt immediately, as Lille took the lead eight minutes later through former Chelsea man Loic Remy.
The former Royal Charleroi added Les Dogues second in the first minute of stoppage time to send Lille to the next round.
Following the clash, Lille’s manager Christophe Galtier revealed Osimhen’s introduction gave them the victory. The 53-year-old said Osimhen’s entrance gave his side more presence in the final third. The former Saint Etienne manager also revealed he had to change the system with Osimhen’s introduction.
The players were serious, committed. We had a very good start to the match without converting our chances. By dint of not being dangerous enough, we give hope to the adversary, to the public, Galtier told France Football
In the second period, I set up another system with the entry of Victor (Osimhen), which brought more presence into the surface. These are always kinds of difficult matches, he added.
Osimhen’s goal last night was his 15th in all competitions for Lille.
