Super Eagles caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf has said he believes Watford striker Odion Ighalo has turned a corner in his international career with his goal against the Red Lions of Luxembourg.
Ighalo, 26, has been in excellent form in the English Premier League while he’s largely struggled with the Eagles; his goal against the Red Lions comes after an eight-month drought following his strike against Cameroon in a friendly last year October.
Critics have already expressed a loss of confidence in the former Udinese man, particularly as he drew blanks in Nigeria’s botched qualification campaign for the 2017 Afcon.
However, interim coach Yusuf said he believes it was crucial for the striker’s self confidence to get on the score-sheet for the Eagles again,Vanguard reports.
“The goal (vs Luxembourg) will do a world of good for the confidence of Ighalo,”Yusuf said.
“It has been a bit difficult for him in front of goal of late, and a goal for a player, a striker for that matter, can do wonders for your self-belief.”
Nigeria will be counting on the attacker to deliver the goods when the World Cup 2018 qualification proper kicks off in October.
