C.F. Estrela da Amadora’s supposed interest in Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu has been robustly dismissed, with sources denouncing the claims as “fabricated lies,” Soccernet.ng reports.
The Portuguese Primera Liga side had been reported to be pursuing the Nigerian star, but these rumours have been swiftly debunked, casting significant doubt on any imminent transfer.
Nigerian media reports indicate that Estrella’s initial bid of $320,000 for the former Bendel Insurance defender was rejected by his Tanzanian club, Ihefu FC, as it was deemed insufficient.
Despite this, Estádio José Gomes is expected to return with a revised offer for the Nigerian international before the transfer window closes.
Sources close to Tanimu’s camp have confirmed that the speculation linking him to the Portuguese outfit is unfounded, stating, “This is nothing but fabricated lies.”
Tanimu’s talent was first recognised by current Rivers United manager Finidi George, who handed him his first Super Eagles call-up, leading to three appearances for the national team.
“Benjamin Tanimu was a player I wanted while he was still at Bendel Insurance. Although it didn’t work out at the time, given our injury concerns, I decided to invite him, and he has been performing well for his club in Tanzania. Why not?” Finidi previously noted.
This talent has also attracted interest from European clubs, including the fourth-tier Spanish side Lleida Esportiu, though these links were later refuted by his current club.
As it stands, Benjamin Tanimu remains with Ihefu FC and is preparing for the upcoming season in the Tanzanian Premier League.
