Veteran defender Onome Ebi has expressed displeasure at reports suggesting her inclusion in the Super Falcons squad for the upcoming Summer Olympics is being imposed on coach Randy Waldrum, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Falcons secured their spot in the 2024 Olympics after a 16-year absence by defeating South Africa’s Banyana Banyana. They are grouped alongside Spain, Brazil, and Japan for the tournament.
However, Nigerian media reports alleging the 41-year-old’s secret inclusion in the Super Falcons squad list for Paris 2024 have sparked criticism within the football community.
Ebi took to Facebook to criticize sports digital creator Ifeoluwa Leo-Olagbaye for his remarks on her inclusion, writing, “Na God go punish you for this your news and misleading people.”
In response to further criticism, Ebi formerly donned the colours of Bayelsa Queens lashed out at those using her name for media attention, labeling them “useless fools.”
“Na God go punish all of una bloggers I swear, una wan dey use my name trend. Useless fools” she added.
Considering her age and her form at the professional level, she has been labelled unfit to match the standard required for the Super Falcons squad list.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons’ Summer Olympics squad list is set to be announced tomorrow as the team begins camp on July 4th ahead of the tournament.
