Players and officials of Doma United FC, a team in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), were involved in a serious car accident on Monday morning, Soccernet.ng reports.
The accident occurred along the Makurdi-Lafia Expressway while the team was returning to their base in Gombe from Imo State.
Doma United had played against Heartland FC in Owerri on Sunday, losing the match 3-1.
According to reports, the team’s bus lost control and flipped several times.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but some players sustained injuries of varying severity and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Doma United, one of the few privately owned clubs in the NPFL, is struggling to retain its league status for the next season. The team is currently 18th on the table, with 43 points from 35 matches.
The club, known as the Savannah Tigers, was founded in 1994 and spent many years in the lower leagues before being promoted to the Premier League in 2022.
In their debut season in the top flight, they finished fifth in Group B, just missing out on a place in the Super Six.
