“One more fight” – Nigeria star Ademola Lookman laser-focused on AFCON title

The Super Eagles will be looking to beat Cote d’Ivoire on their own soil, and Lookman has stated his readiness to spur the team to glory

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has indicated his readiness for Nigeria’s clash with Cote d’Ivoire in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigeria will be looking to claim a fourth African crown when they play 2023 AFCON hosts Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday. Both teams have had an opposite journey to the final.

Nigeria did not start the competition well, as they settled for a 1-1 draw against Guinea-Bissau in their first game. That result dented their trophy credentials, as the team was performing poorly then, and it seemed like it would be another poor tournament for Nigeria. However, they picked up the pace and started churning impressive performances on the road to the final.

Cote d’Ivoire, on the other hand, have had a topsy-turvy journey. They started well with a win against Guinea-Bissau but lost the remaining two games against Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. They were on the brink of exiting the tournament but were saved by the best loser slot. Cote d’Ivoire even changed their coach after the group stage.

The Elephants had to dig deep in all their knockout games to fight their way to the final.

Taking the prowess and history of both teams into consideration, it seems that they are at par, and it promises to be a tough encounter.

Ahead of the game, Atalanta star Lookman, who has been talismanic for the Super Eagles, has shared his readiness to go for the title.

“Final soon, one more fight. Together!!!” Lookman wrote on his X page.

The final will be played at the Stade Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
