Ex-Man United star, Osimhen, Boniface spearhead Nigeria’s top five scorers in 2023

As the countdown to the 34th African Cup of Nations intensifies, the spotlight naturally falls on the Super Eagles of Nigeria and their formidable attacking prowess, Soccernet.ng reports.

Spearheaded by coach Jose Peseiro, Nigeria’s squad boasts an array of striking talent, which is anticipated to hand Nigeria a good chance in the tournament.

Although, only some players with impressive goal scoring records in 2023 were called up to participate at the upcoming AFCON tournament.

However, Soccernet.ng highlights the top five attackers who scored the most goals in 2023.

Victor Osimhen (34)

At the forefront of Super Eagles attacking list stands the Osimhen, whose stellar 2023 season with Napoli gannered attention that same year.

His 34 goals, an exemplary display of consistency and goal-scoring skill, not only crowned Napoli with their first scudetto in 33 years but also earned him the esteemed title of the African Footballer of the Year.

Gift Orban (32)

The 21-year-old’s swift rise and knack for goal-scoring captured attention, notably highlighted by his remarkable hat-trick in Gent’s UEFA Europa Conference League encounter against Istanbul Basaksehir.

Although missing out on the AFCON squad, Orban’s impressive 32 goals in 2023 signified a talent to watch out for in future competitions.

Odion Ighalo (28)

The former Manchester United striker, despite transitioning clubs in the Saudi Pro League, showcased his enduring proficiency by contributing to 28 goals throughout the calendar year, proving his mettle remains undiminished.

Victor Boniface (26)

the young prodigy thriving in the German Bundesliga, notched an impressive 26 goals, solidifying his position as one of Europe’s emerging talents.

Akor Adams (25)

The startlet emerged as an unexpected sensation in 2023, particularly with his transfer to Ligue 1 club Montpellier. His seven crucial goals played a pivotal role in the team’s fortunes, tallying a total of 25 goals through the year.
