AFCON 2021: Liverpool star Mohamed Salah reveals Egypt’s goal against Nigeria

The Pharaohs’ hopes of winning an unprecedented eighth continental title rest heavily on the shoulders of the 29-year-old

Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has once again reiterated his desire to help Egypt win the Africa Cup of Nations title again, starting with a win against Nigeria.

Egypt are the most successful side in the history of the competition, having won it seven times. However, the Pharaohs have not won the biggest prize in African football since 2010.

Salah is hoping to change that at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, saying it would be a huge honour to finally win a title for his country

The ex-Roma star made his debut for his country in 2011 but has not won a title for his nation in his ten years of playing international football.

Salah did come close in 2017, when Egypt reached the final, only to lose to Cameroon despite taking the lead in the match.

Nonetheless, Salah hopes to create history with his country in Cameroon. He has assured fans the team will do everything to bring the title to Cairo, starting with a win against their first opponents in Nigeria.

“We are not the favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations, but we will do our best to reclaim the title,” Salah said in his pre-match press conference, as per King Fut.

“I am only one of eleven players that represent Egypt. We will do everything we can to come on top in tomorrow’s match and in the tournament as a whole.

“We have to work very hard to live up to our expectations, playing every game as a team to win.

“I am yet to win my first title with Egypt, it would be an honour to win the AFCON, it’s been ten years since I started representing my country, and lifting the trophy would mean a lot to me.”

Salah has been in brilliant form for his club Liverpool and arguably the best player this season. He will need to replicate his club form if Egypt are to go all the way in Cameroon.

  • The Nigeria defenders should mark Mohammed Sala with utmost care. He should not be allowed to cause havoc in the eighteen yard box. Let the defenders watch previous video of how his been mark out in the league. Watch how Rudiger of Chelsea mark him out during their 2:2 match.with Chelsea. I think Ndidi will have role to play in the match. Wish you good luck in the match. Pls do not commit blunder like some country who started well and end up loss to their opponent
