Victor Moses’ experience shows as Spartak Moscow see off Khimki

Victor Moses played all 90 minutes as Spartak Moscow breezed past Brian Idowu’s Khimki with a 3-1 victory at the Otkrytie Bank Arena.

The People’s team went into their seventh game of the Russian Premier League fixture looking for their first win in three, while Khimki were in search of their second win of the season.

Retired Nigeria international Moses started from the wing-back position for Spartak Moscow, while Idowu was part of a back three for Khimki.

The home side started the game on the front foot, bossing the possession and searching for an opening in the Khimki defence.

It didn’t take long before they were rewarded for their dominance as Ayrton promptly slotted behind Lantratov in the 25th minute after receiving a precise pass from Aleksandr Maksimenko.

The away side went out in search of a goal to restore parity, and they thought they had finally achieved their aim in the 41st minute when Kukharchuk fired an unstoppable shot into Spartak’s net. However, their joy was short-lived as the goal was disallowed due to offside.

Spartak resumed the second half stronger, with Moses running the show from the right side brilliantly, and it took them just three minutes after the break to punish Idowu’s Khimki.

Former Ajax man Quincy Promes reacted swiftly to a loose ball and fired home to increase Spartak Moscow’s lead.

What was already a bad day for Khimki got even worse in the 68th minute as Ezequiel Ponce pounced on a rebound to fire home, giving Spartak a three-goal cushion.

Khimki went all out to attack, but all of their efforts were rebuffed. However, they got a consolation in the 89th minute when Denis Glushakov scored to make the scoreline less embarrassing.
