Super Eagles returnee backs up his goal with another assist in Die Kraichgauer’s painful loss to Dortmund

Die Kraichgauer conceded a stoppage-time winner at Signal Iduna Park, but their Nigerian import backed up his goal last week with another assist on Friday night

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma continued his rich form in the attacking end after he provided an assist in Hoffenheim’s 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund in their German Bundesliga clash.

Akpoguma had scored in Hoffenheim’s 2-2 draw against Union Berlin last weekend and almost made it two in as many games on Friday night.

The thrilling encounter saw both sides score in the 90th minute of the game. Following a goalless first half, the game burst into life after the break.

Gio Reyna opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 49th minute firing home following a ball from Jude Bellingham.

However, Christoph Baumgartner drew Hoffenheim level in the 61st minute with a nice finish from a tight angle following a through ball from Dennis Geiger.

Their joy would be short-lived, though, as Bellingham restored Dortmund’s lead eight minutes later with a fine left volley following a poor clearance from Hoffenheim’s defence.

But just as it seemed time was running out for Sebastian Hoeneß, Akpoguma rose highest in the 90th minute to head a corner into the path of Munas Dabbur, who slotted home from close range.

Akpoguma’s header appeared to be heading in already, but Dabbur was taking no chances. The 26-year-old defender, who got a recall to Nigeria’s squad for next month’s World Cup qualifiers, put in a brilliant shift in defence.

He made two interceptions and the same number of tackles, while he also won five duels and made one successful clearance.

But despite his best efforts to salvage a point for his side, Hoffenheim left with nothing as Erling Haaland fired in a winner for Dortmund in the first minute of added time.
