Paul Onuachu issues ‘come-get-me’ message to Europe’s best clubs with another goal against Belgium’s finest

The Nigerian international showed the world he is a terror to both small and big clubs when he outwitted the best that Belgium have to offer

Paul Onuachu sealed his status as the best striker in Belgium when he scored again in Genk’s 3-0 triumph over champions-in-the-waiting Club Brugge on Friday evening.

Onuachu has been phenomenal all season for Genk, with the Nigerian forward already netting 30 goals – the joint-highest this century in the Belgian top-flight – for John van den Brom’s side.

And the Nigerian international was at it again at the Luminus Arena as he scored the opening goal to power The Smurfs to a comprehensive victory over the league leaders.

It means Onuachu has now scored the most goals in a single campaign in the Belgian top-flight this century. The 26-year-old was previously tied with Wesley Sonck, who also scored 30 goals in the 2001/2002 campaign.

Brugge have been the best team in Belgium this campaign by a country mile, winning 24 of 34 league matches during the regular championship and establishing an unassailable points advantage.

But Onuachu and teammates made the reigning champions look ordinary for the entire duration of the encounter.

Much of the debate ahead of kickoff was about who was better between Onuachu and Brugge’s nine-goal hero Dutchman Bas Dost.

The Super Eagles star needed only eleven minutes after the break to slam home his 31st league goal in 35 games and confirm that he has no equal in the First Division A.

Junya Ito and Kristian Thorstvedt were Genk’s other goalscorers on the night.

But it is Onuachu who would have sent a clear message across Europe to his potential suitors that he is the deadliest finisher any club can hope to sign in the summer.
