Nigerians Abroad: Oshoala Helps Barcelona To Another Trophy, Ighalo Scores First Goal In Saudi Arabia

It was another weekend of football action in major leagues across the world, and several Nigerian players were not left out

Asisat Oshoala won her fourth trophy with Barcelona Femeni after Lluis Cortes side won the Copa de la Reina by beating Logrono in the final.

Oshoala came on in the 65th minute of the encounter as goals from Alexia Putellas (P), Aitana Bonmati and Jennifer Hermoso sealed a comprehensive win for Barcelona.

With the win, Barcelona are now the current holders of four titles having won the Spanish league title, Supercopa de España and Copa Catalunya.

Oshoala has scored 11 times in 13 matches for La Blaugranes this season.

Meanwhile, Odion Ighalo scored his first goal for Al-Shabab as Carlos Inarejos men won 4-0 at Al-Nassr to maintain their lead at the top of Saudi Arabian Professional League.

Evan Banega’s penalty gave the away side the lead before a brace from Cristian Guanca in either half extended the lead.

Ighalo added the fourth in the second minute of added time after coming on as a second half substitute for Fabio Martins.

In Italy, Victor Osimhen made his first league start since November as Napoli stunned Juventus at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. A Lorenzo Insigne penalty in the 31st minute was all Napoli needed to seal the three points.

While Osimhen started his first league game since November, Zaidu Sanusi was a half-time substitute as Porto came back from two goals down to salvage a point at home against struggling Boavista.

Boavista raced into a two-goal lead at half-time courtesy of strikes from Jackson Porozo in the eighth minute and Alberth Elis on the stroke of half-time.

However, Sanusi’s introduction helped the home side salvage a point. Mehdi Taremi pulled one back in the 54th minute before Sergio Oliveira’s penalty levelled the scores eight minutes from time.

The Portuguese had the chance to win it for Porto after they were awarded another penalty, but his spot-kick was saved.

Sanusi has now made 17 league appearances for the Dragons this season. Meanwhile, Chidozie Awaziem was not in the Boavista squad.

In Holland, Maduka Okoye made his 15th league appearance of the season, but he could not keep a clean sheet as Sparta Rotterdam suffered a 1-2 home loss to Fortuna Sittard.

Lisandro Semedo put Fortuna Sittard ahead in the 23rd minute but Danzell Gravenberch levelled matters for the home side seven minutes later.

However, Sebastian Polter’s strike in the 50th minute ensured the away side took home the three points. The result means Okoye has now conceded 21 goals in the Dutch top-flight with just five clean sheets to his name.
