Leon Balogun Rangers Career Starts On An Impressive Note

The Super Eagles centre back recently joined Rangers on a one-year deal, and he could not have hoped for a better start

Leon Balogun’s performance in Rangers win over Aberdeen in the 2020/2021 Scottish Professional Football League opening weekend has earned him a spot in the team of the week.

Balogun signed for Steven Gerrard’s men a few weeks ago, and he was handed a start in the clash against Derek John McInnes side.

The 32-year-old, who was previously on loan at Wigan from Brighton, played for the whole duration, and he did not put a foot wrong.

Ryan Kent’s strike in the 21st minute gave Gerrard’s side the maximum points, but it was Balogun’s performance that was worthy of a place in SPFL team of the week.

The former Mainz defender was chosen alongside three Celtic defenders in defence. Meanwhile, Balogun’s international teammate, Joe Aribo, was also in action for the Gers on Saturday afternoon.

Rangers next play Bayer Leverkusen in the 2nd leg of their Europa League round of 16clash. Gerrard’s men will hope to turn the tie around having lost the first leg at home by three goals to one.

However, they won’t be able to count on the services of Balogun as he’s not eligible for the encounter.
