The former Gabon manager is set to remain in charge of the Nigerian national team until December 2022 after signing a new two and a half years contract with the NFF
Bordeaux winger Samuel Kalu has hailed the Nigeria Football Federation for handling Gernot Rohr a contract extension, saying the coach can lead Super Eagles to continental glory.
The Franco-German gaffer has been praised and bashed in almost equal measure.
Rohr has earned praises for bringing stability to the Super Eagles and also leading them to the 2018 FIFA World Cup with a game to spare.
Nigeria also qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations where they finished third after missing out on two previous editions.
However, the 66-year-old has also faced a few criticisms, including for not inviting home-based players into the national team set-up.
But Super Eagles star, Kalu, is confident that retaining Rohr is good for the team’s further success.
“It is a very good news for us, and we are looking forward as players to achieve something big with him,” Kalu told the Nation Sport.
“The Eagles can win the next Africa Cup of Nations, no big deal about this. We just need to work very hard and believe in our qualities, and we can do it.
“Coach Rohr is a very good coach, and we as the players have confidence in him. I am happy he will be the Super Eagles’ coach for another two years and half.”
