Manchester City seek redemption against Watford after Norwich debacle

Manchester City have no good memories of their last league match, where the champions were at the wrong end of one of the shocks of the season as Norwich edged a dramatic five-goal thriller at Carrow Road.

Pep Guardiola’s men however bounced back in the best possible manner in Ukraine where they make light work of Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League Group game.

On Saturday, Watford will be guests of the Citizens and will hope that their morale boosting display against Arsenal last weekend can spur them to greater things this time.

The Hornets sat bottom of the log when Arsenal arrived at Vicarage Road and the situation looked dire when Unai Emery’s men took a two-goal lead. But Watford fought their way back to rescue a draw.

Watford however face an uphill task as the Hornets have a terrible record against the league’s best sides.

They have been beaten in each of their last 15 away games against the Premier League’s top six clubs, and it would be little surprise should the Hornets struggle again at the home of one of the big boys on Saturday.

Head-to-head

Only four months ago, the Citizens annihilated the Hornets 6-0 in a despairingly one-sided FA Cup Final.

That huge victory was Man City’s 11th straight win against Watford in all competitions.

City have actually rattled three goals or more past Watford in five of their last six encounters with them, racking up an aggregate score of 25-3 in the process.

Despite coming out on the wrong side of the result, Watford have scored in three of their last four meetings with the Citizens.

Prediction
